2019 TKO State Championships

The Crown Plaza Hotel at Reliant Center of Houston Hosted this November 15th and 16th 2019 TKO state championships martial arts championships  with a whopping crowd that filled the main ball room. It was one of the largest TKO State Championships to date. The contingent of Texas competitors included state national and world champions. This 2 day Texas State championship event was produced by the legendary Wayne Nugyen. Wayne has produced quality events for the last 23 years and as a competitor who has been to many of his events I can testify to the quality of the TKO organization.

2019 TKO State ChampionshipsMany of the top TKO competitors from around the state competed Friday night with weapons, musical forms and specialty events as well as some sparing divisions. Many new junior and adult under belt champions became the latest addition to the TKO history. All the producers were on hand judging and helping to supply top ranked black belts for each ring.  On Saturday powerhouse world champion black belts like adults Romell Gargoles, , Page Bantom, Carol Parenti, Trace Magellan, Morgan Smith and black belt juniors Alex Menceas, Anales Bolen, Thomas Seins, were competing for the coveted title of TKO State champion. Saturday also had kick boxing, grappling, stick fighting and breaking divisional championships adding to the variety of competition as well as the number of competitors at this event.

The Saturday Night time finals kicked off with an awesome breaking demo by TKO champions from earlier in the event. Then the star spangled banner that had a simultaneous kata demo headed up by the amazing junior Analese Bolen. Next up on the Finals demos were Team T Force and a hypnotizing powerful musical weapons team kata. Last up Team HCK performed another great team kata adding to highly charged and mesmerizing night time finals show.

The night time finals competition started with the junior black belt contemporary grands.  The latest top world competitor Alex Menceas came out on top and was junior State Grand champion. Then a group of TKO’s top adult black belt champions Carol Parenti, Lucas Fontenot, Page Bantom, Charles  Shedd and Trace Magellas w

ere vying for the championship, Trace performed a powerful staff form sporting a broken finger and still managed to win the TKO State contemporary forms grand champion.

Romell Gargoles won against Morgan Smith in the adult black belt traditional forms grand championship and Thomas seins won the junior traditional grand championship. Then there was a breathtaking adult female kick boxing match and a junior male against junior female kickboxing exhibition by earlier junior kickboxing state champions. In the adult black belt sparring competition Chance Turner won the men’s sparring grand championship. The whole event finalized with awards given to overall point champions and the judges. Lastly everybody who won a state championship went on stage to be awarded their beautiful TKO state championship rings. All the divisional results can be found on the TKO Website.
